The Secret of Zumba!!

Some of you have heard me talk about one of my newest obsessions: Zumba! I joined the Y recently and after becoming extremely jealous of Carrie for taking the cheerleading/fitness class at Lifetime, I set out to find a fun fitness class at the Y. What I found is Zumba, a salsa/merengue (spelling?)/latin dancey-type fitness class. The first one I took was very fun because three friends of mine from MOMS Club joined me. Of course, we all looked ridiculous and I am never going to salsa dance in a more public place than Studio 2 at the Y, but it was an amazing work-out! The one shocking thing that added to any self-conscienceness I was experiencing was that the instructor looks just like me. I'm talking, we could be sisters. She is obviously more fit than I am, but probably around my age and has short hair. I think she noticed, too, because every time I walk in the room she looks at me like "Oh!" Weird! (I'd post a picture but I think it would be a little strange of me to take pictures during a fitness class???) Anyhoo, today was the last class that she will be teaching until the fall, but I will continue to attend the class with the new instructor because I have now found the secret to Zumba. Every time I've done it, I've stood right in the front where I could see myself and the instructor plainly in the mirror. This time, I snuck in late so I stood in the very back. How brilliant of me! I couldn't see myself in the mirror, so I wasn't so worried about how much of an idiot I was making myself out to be. Also, the other people in the class aren't super fit like the instructor. I am probably the youngest one who attends and there is even one guy who goes every week, too. He wears jeans and a hankerchief on his head. Today I stood by him and realized that he smells like B.O. and cigarettes, so that wasn't very pleasant, but at least it doesn't bring down my self-esteem for me to make a fool of myself in this place. All in all, it's so great and hopefully, it will help me get back down to my pre-pregnancy size before my sister comes home from basic training! (Fat chance, but a girl can dream!) Check out my photo album for some cute pictures of my sister before she left for the Army!!
