Happy 4th of July!

Today was the most low-key 4th of July we've ever had, I do believe. We originally had no plans for the afternoon, but Chris was itching to work on his boat and the kids were itching to see their grandparents, so we headed up to Chris' parents' house for some visiting. (My parents were both in Colorado, so no annual picnic this year with them.) I thought for sure Hannah would nap at Grandma's, but nope. We stayed until dinnertime, then let both kids fall asleep in the car on the way home. Of course, Hannah's total nap time for day equaled about 30 minutes or less, so we were trying to decide if we should even attempt fireworks. It would mean keeping the kids up past their bedtimes and also asking them to have patience while we waited for the fireworks to start. After contemplating for awhile, we decided to try it. Here is our fireworks experience in pictures:

We got a prime blanket spot right by the border of the fireworks area AND right next to a playground. The kids had fun playing for awhile, but Caleb didn't want me to take his picture....


Snacks always help with the waiting....unless you let the kids eat up all the good snacks right away and they refuse all the other snacks you brought later.


Wait! There are fireworks starting over there!!


They aren't from our town though. Boo. This means more waiting.

Maybe watching "Dora the Explorer" on Daddy's phone will keep the kids entertained??


(It worked for about 5 minutes.)

Wait! The fireworks are starting again!!


Nope....just fireworks that people are setting off at their houses. Boo, again. At this point, we just couldn't keep the kids entertained anymore. So, Chris took the kids on quite a few walks on a path in the park.


Finally, around 10pm, the fireworks for our town started. Hannah started saying "All done! All done!" and Caleb looked like this:


Apparently, they were over-tired and ready to get out of there. However, the good thing is that neither child was scared of the fireworks this year and we made it through more than half of the display that our town put on. Very promising and we are amazed that the kids made it that long.
