Swimming Lessons

Last year, I posted about Caleb taking swimming lessons. He was in a class with Chris (a parent/child class) but we didn't realize that the class was too young for Caleb until we were in the pool. As it turned out, his class had only one other child in it, so the teacher was able to spend some one-on-one time with Caleb teaching him things he would learn in the next class up. After months and months of Caleb reminding me that I haven't signed him up for the next class, I did it! We've been spending so much time at the gym this past week, so I finally said, "let's do it!" Both kids are enrolled in swimming lessons for Thursday evenings.

This past Thursday was the first class. Caleb was in his element. He's in a class called "Pike", which is meant for kids ages 3-5. He's in the class with 3 other boys his age and his teacher is so nice. Plus, the lessons are in the pool he swims in for preschool, so he was super comfortable in the water.

Hannah is taking the same class that Caleb took last year, so she's always going to be in the water with either Chris or myself. Chris went in with her this last time and I'm glad it was him, rather than me. At first, Hannah didn't like the water and wanted to get out. (You can really tell we swim a lot---NOT!) She cried for a little bit but Chris kept her in the water. Soon, Hannah was as happy and bubbly as ever. What was the solution? Hannah's teacher gave her a rubber ducky to throw around in the water and she loved it!! We've also had to add the poem "Motorboat" to our bedtime song routine: she had so much fun doing "Motorboat" that she wants to talk about it all day!

I couldn't take any pictures in the pool area because there were a lot of other people besides just my family there. However, I did sneak a picture of Hannah in the locker room after lessons. You can tell that she's one happy girl! :)
