A couple weeks ago, I went up to Caleb's bedroom to help him pick out some pajamas before bed. We were surprised to hear and then see a little bird sitting on the outer window-ledge of Caleb's bedroom window. It was a very windy and rainy night, and since Caleb's window currently doesn't have a screen on it, we figured out that the little bird was able to tuck himself into a corner.
He was so comfortable, in fact, that he just didn't want to fly away! We knocked on the window, and while it made him chirp more, he didn't want to budge an inch. We just had to help him fly away, knowing that Caleb might try to open his window to touch the bird when we left him alone in the room. I went in search of a shoe box, thinking that Chris might want to capture the bird and then bring it out the front door, but instead, Chris grabbed one of Hannah's pink plastic hangers. He opened the window just enough to slide the hanger through and touch the bird with it.
After a couple minutes of nudging and prodding, the little guy finally decided to find a new perch. We had to comfort Caleb a little bit and tell him that we were sure the bird would find another warm spot to sleep tonight. It was so much fun to have a surprise visitor like that, even if it was just for a little while. :)

Great Grandma Arlene would have loved to see that little bird. She loved if a bird would make a nest in a window sill that she could keep track of. Our kids loved to go out on our deck and look down through the slats as a robin family made and still makes a nest there every year. The eggs or newly hatched birds were a mere 3-4 inches away from all our big eyes!
