Well, the title, as you may expect is about ME! Totally kidding! While I am NOT the best mom in the world, by any means, my daughter certainly makes me feel like I am. Anyone who has ever had a 5-month old probably knows what I'm talking about. I can be doing anything at all---talking on the phone, scolding her brother, singing a silly song---and I'll look over at her and there she is, giving me the biggest grin and telling me with her eyes that I am an awesome person. I have my days where I feel like I can't do anything right and that I don't even know what the heck I'm doing as a parent, but when I see the smile of my baby girl or hear her laugh at a really dorky face that I am making, it is ALL worth it.
On a completely opposite note, my two-year old told me yesterday to "Get out and stay out". I was a little surprised until I found out that he learned it during a "fire safety" talk at preschool. Unfortunately, Caleb is really using this phrase to his advantage.....
Here is a picture of my little Spiderman with his "jelly bean factory". Man, kids have amazing imaginations!!
Just a cute picture of Caleb and myself. My eyebrows are red from just getting them waxed but Caleb's "cheese face" is priceless!
Caleb recently learned how to do the "Hokey Pokey". It's been great with teaching him "left" and "right" and he loves doing this little dance any chance he can get. Today we were driving around town, so he was singing the song while sitting in his carseat. It went something like this:
"Do the Hokey Pokey! Put your left foot in! Put your left foot out! Put your right foot in! Put your head in! Put your whole body out! Put your pee-pee in! Put your pee-pee out!"
It might be time to teach him which body parts are appropriate for this dance.....
No, this isn't the beginning of a hilarious and completely random joke. It's the nutshell version of what I've experienced in the past two days. Yesterday morning (Sunday), Caleb was invited to his friend's birthday party. The invitation promised pizza, cupcakes, and a "reptile presentation". How could we miss it?! You will be proud: Wimpy Katie actually touched a turtle, a gecko, a disgusting lizard, and 5 snakes including a boa constrictor. Whoopie! My positive example even got my son to touch the turtle, the gecko and one of the snakes. All in all, it was an amazing presentation and I learned a lot. (Lizards can blink but snakes can't. Just a little FYI for you...) I did, however, go home and tell Chris right away that our children will never have reptiles for pets....
In the evening, my brother- and sister-in-law came over for dinner. It was a nice evening of relaxation and playing the Wii, of course. (If you have a Wii, you need to get skeeball!!) Turns out, my brother-in-law, John, is a skeeball champ and his wife, Heather, can really play tennis. Everyone's athletic abilities come out with the Wii! Also that evening, while we were sitting outside enjoying the perfect weather, we noticed Caleb sticking his face into a little crevis of his Little Tikes slide structure. As it turned out, he was talking to a bee that happened to be starting a hive there. Chris ended up destroying two bee hives right next to each other. Thank goodness, because if they would have grown, Caleb would have a summer of bee-stings for sure! (Frizt Facts, thanks for the info on treating bee stings! I'm a novice at all of this "mom stuff".) :)
My story concludes with a very eventful morning. Chris headed off to work early and the kids and I had a big day planned with visits to an awesome park in Stillwater and a library tour this afternoon. Unfortunately, our plans were thwarted when my 5-month old daughter puked ALL OVER my bed.....TWICE! My "very eventful" morning has been full of laundry and cuddling a sick child, which, I guess, isn't so bad. :)
For the past 6 months or so, my two-year old has given up on afternoon naps. I'm talking, no naps, no how. Of course, there has been the occassional falling asleep in the car late in the afternoon or falling asleep in precarious positions around dinnertime and sleeping until morning. We've even had an incident or two where he has fallen asleep in the double-stroller while we were out shopping. (Now that's a picture I should have taken, since there was absolutely no place for him to rest his head!). Putting him in his bedroom during the day would lead to a battle I didn't want to face, so I, too, gave up on him ever taking a normal nap again. All of my afternoon "mommy time" was lost and I had actually gotten pretty used to this idea (as sad as it may be...). So, you'd understand my pleasant surprise when his preschool teacher mentioned that for the past few weeks, he's been sleeping everyday (two days a week, that is) at preschool. When I picked him up on Thursday and he had been sleeping for over an hour, my hopes soared. Finally, Mommy will get her afternoon "chore/card-making/whatever-the-heck-I-want-to-do" time back! Yesterday was the first day I decided to try this. I had a splitting headache, and Hannah is still at an age where she will sleep whenever I stick a bottle in her mouth, so I thought it was going to be perfect. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that Caleb was wiser than I thought. Caleb, Hannah and myself all cuddled in my bed. Hannah fell asleep and I was almost asleep, but Caleb was just a wiggle-worm. For over half an hour he talked, sang and imagined that his pillow was a big cake and it was someone's birthday. I finally had had it. I said "Caleb, you need to close your mouth, close your eyes, and try to relax your body so you can sleep." He looked at me and without missing a beat said "I'm trying, Mom, but it takes a long time!" Okay.... Today was attempt #2. This time, he wanted to sleep on the couch. I piled all the pillows and blankets he requested on top of him and told him to snuggle in. After a good 15 minutes of me pretending to be asleep on the other couch, Caleb got up from his couch and started walking away. I said "Hey, buddy! What do you think you're doing?" He said "I'm not tired. Thanks for trying." :p Maybe I got my hopes up too soon...
Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for visiting my new blog. Some of you know that I have been wanting to start a blog for quite some time. My wonderful husband offered to build a website for me but due to his busy schedule and me not wanting to nag him continuously, I've decided to take matters into my own hands for now and create a "blog spot". I hope that you enjoy reading about my day to day adventures and I will try to keep the rambling down to a minimum. (For those of you who know me well, you know how hard this can be for me!) :) Also, for those who have asked, your comments are VERY welcome! :)
