Summer Art Camp

During the first and second weeks of August, Caleb and Hannah (respectively) attended art camp at our new favorite art place, KidCreate.  (I mentioned it in a previous post which you can find HERE.)  Caleb chose "Lego Star Wars" art camp, where he created painting and clay sculptures with Lego and a Star Wars theme (think Han Solo frozen in carbonite turned into a clay sculpture by a six-year old).  One of the very cool things that he made was a Darth Vader bobble head.  Here's a blurry picture, but you get the idea:

It's made mostly out of clay and the head is held on with a toothpick.  Then, they painted one cup from an egg carton and put that upside-down on the head, which is the part that "bobbles".  SO interesting!!

Hannah had a BLAST at her art camp, too, and will tell you all about it if you ask her.  She attended "Disney Princess" art camp, where she made a crown, a very elaborate wand, a princess face cut-out (it's like a big mask but there's a hole in the middle to show your face) and fairy wings, to name a few projects.  I was very impressed with the amount of projects each camp made.  Definitely worth the money, in my opinion.  Here's a picture of Hannah when I picked her up from her first morning at camp:

Hannah is already talking about how she wants to do a "Merida" art class (Merida is the newest princess to come on the scene.  She's the female lead---and red head---from the new movie "Brave") and Caleb is just dying to try "Fruit Ninja" camp ("Fruit Ninja" is a game he plays on our iPad).  The Fruit Ninja class sounds like something I would like because I guess they take a big sheet of paper and let the kids throw different colors of paint all over it.  Who wouldn't like that?!  With school starting soon, we're a little over-booked, so I haven't scheduled any more camps but I am thinking of having a rep from KidCreate come to our house and help the kids make a project for Hannah's birthday party in December.  She's having a "Pippi Longstocking" themed party, so I think it's a great idea to let the kids have a "controlled mess" by having an art project for them to do.  I may be brilliant or I may be crazy.  I guess we'll find out later.  :)
